Saved by the Bell star Dustin Powers has passed away at the age of forty-four due to a brief battle with lung cancer.
In early January it was reported that Diamond had been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Diamond was admitted to a Florida hospital after experiencing pain that radiated throughout his entire body.
When asked about the disease, Diamond stated that it was something that ran in his family and that his mother had passed from it years earlier.
A representative told TMZ that Diamond had passed on Monday morning when he had taken an unfortunate turn for the worse throughout the last week, with Diamond being taken off a breathing machine to transfer him to hospice care.
Diamond gained his fame from playing Samuel “Screech” Powers on the hit show Saved by the Bell. Saved by the Bell had an impressive run from 1989-1993.
Powers was also a part of Saved by the Bell: The College Years in 1993. Lastly, Diamond would also appear as Mr. Belding’s assistant for a majority of Saved by the Bell: The New Class, which ran from 1993-2000.
Unfortunately, Diamond’s career took a very negative turn with Diamond releasing a sex tape back in 2006, as well as lawsuits involving faulty taxes, foreclosure proceedings over missing mortgage payments, and a bar stabbing which led to him being in prison for four months.
Diamond would return to television by appearing in a number of reality television programs such as Big Brother, Celebrity Fit Club, Celebrity Boxing 2, and The Weakest Link.
A sequel series to Saved By The Bell has just hit the Peacock streaming service which and was met with good praise. Diamond was not asked to return in which he voiced his displeasure.
Despite his shaky life after his fame on Saved by the Bell, Powers was still loved for his goofy and charming character Screech.
Rest in Peace.
