On Wednesday, reports began to surface on the interwebz that 57-year-old musician Biz Markie had passed away.
However, reports are now stating that Markie’s manager has confirmed that he is indeed alive, and under hospice care. Family and friends of the musician are asking for positive thoughts and prayers.
Markie’s manager, Jenni Izumi released the following statement to NBC:
“Biz is under medical care”
“Surrounded by professionals who are working hard to provide the best health care possible.”
Izumi also said the following about Markie’s wife and family:
“wife and family are touched by the outpouring of love and admiration from his friends, peers, and fans alike.”
The posts of his passing on Wednesday were fueled by REVOLT’s website.
Fans were quick to correct REVOLT on their massive error, with a fair amount of them taking to Twitter to claim that Biz was still indeed alive. The scenario itself is very similar to the one that transpired with DMX a bit earlier this year (peeps need to cool it with the news here -_-).
The site would post the following statement upon realizing the rapper was still alive:
“The news of Biz Markie’s passing is not true. Biz is still under medical care, surrounded by professionals who are working hard to provide the best health care possible. Biz’s wife and family are touched by the outpouring of love and admiration from his friends, peers, and fans alike. At this time, we ask for your continued thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
Markie has struggled with his health for years, dating back to his diabetes diagnosis in 2010. Three years following, Markie would tell the Daily News that he had dropped about 140lbs to control his weight and manage his health.
Last summer he had suffered a stroke and had been hospitalized in Maryland.
Markie rose to fame from his 1989 single “Just a Friend”.
